Callum Wilson jokes Newcastle United still have part to play in Premier League title race

Callum Wilson has joked that this weekend’s huge clash between Manchester City and Liverpool is not a title decider as Newcastle United still have to play both sides. The two high-fliers go head to head on Sunday, with some calling the game a grudge match for the Premier League title.

Liverpool’s stunning 10-game winning run has slashed City’s lead at the top to just one point - despite Pep Guardiola’s men having a 14-point cushion over the Reds in January. The Magpies face the two top-flight big hitters before the end of the campaign, with a home clash against Liverpool on April 30 followed by a trip to the Etihad one week later.

Wilson humorously played down the importance of the game due to Newcastle having to play both sides. Speaking on the Footballer’s Football podcast, he said: “I agree (that Man City v Liverpool is a title decider). But I also would say we have to play both for them, Newcastle will play a part!

“I'm joking, obviously. It’s two top teams going head to head. Whoever comes out on top is obviously going to have things in their favour going forward. And then it's just about them being consistent from them to the end of the season because it would be their (title) to lose.

“Who will win? I couldn't put a finger on it. They're both top sides and both very different sides.”
