Callum Wilson has insisted that his Newcastle United team-mate Bruno Guimaraes was the best signing made in last season's Premier League. The 24-year-old Brazilian was recruited from Lyon for a fee in the region of £35million late on in the January transfer window.
Having signed a four-and-a-half year deal, Guimaraes immediately lit up the Magpies' midfield with his samba skills and, from the 11 games he subsequently started, his new club won seven of them. He also contributed five goals and, commenting on the Rio-born playmaker's impact on the league during the latest episode of BBC's Footballer's Football Podcast, Wilson said: "The best new signing - and it cannot be questioned - is Bruno Guimaraes for Newcastle.
"Honestly this guy has come in, he is an absolute baller. He come in in January in a relegation battle.
