Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier latest as Newcastle duo come off ahead of World Cup

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson is not a World Cup concern - despite a withdrawal at half-time at Southampton.

The striker complained of feeling light headed at half-time after a week of illness. Wilson had said he felt “run down” in the week and Eddie Howe took no chances with him.

His replacement Chris Wood scored after the break and Wilson got back on the coach all smiles.

Another concern was Kieran Trippier who picked up a slight hamstring injury.

After the game Trippier said: "I felt it tighten up as I stretched but I came out in the second half to carry on. I'm OK."

United head coach Howe said: “Callum wasn't that well in the week and felt light-headed and dizzy so that's why he came off.

"It was a joint decision, he didn't feel he had the energy needed and it was easy decision to replace him with Chris, who came on and got the job done. When you look at today's performance it was below from where have been but we still won 4-1."
