Celtic captain Callum McGregor was wearing a knee brace as he boarded a flight to see a specialist as Ange Postecoglou awaits news of how long the influential midfielder will be out for.
Postecoglou admitted McGregor’s spell on the sidelines won’t be “short term” but hopes it won’t be for too long after the Hoops skipper was forced off during his Celtic's Champions League defeat to RB Leipzig in Germany.
Fans reported seeing McGregor catching an early morning flight from Edinburgh to London and he was wearing a brace on his right knee to take the pressure off. It will soon become clear just how long he will be unavailable. In the short term, Postecoglou wants other players to step up and fill the void.
He said: "He's a fantastic player and beyond that, it's his influence on and off the field as a leader. There's not one person that can replace that, it will be a case of the other guys stepping up and filling the breach.
"We missed him for a few games last year and it's just stuff we have got to cope with. Obviously he is disappointed because he's such a big part of how we play our football and what we've created here so I know he'll be working hard, whatever the timeline to get back."
