Eddie Howe looks like he is in the mood to create a team that could end the season in a much more comfortable position than Newcastle managed last time. Having signed Sven Botman, Matt Target and Nick Pope already this summer, the Magpies will be looking to strengthen their attack also. They’ve been looking at fan favourite Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The Cobham graduate, once a Chelsea favourite, has struggled for game time since his injury. The 21-year-old made quite the first impression upon his debut season under Maurizio Sarri back in 2019. Clubs, including Bayern Munich, could recognise his talent and wanted to sign him up, betting on his potential. Knowing this, the Blues quickly renewed his contract, which now expires in 2024.
Hudson-Odoi has been patient with the Blues for a long time now and has worked hard to live up to his reputation. But now is the right time for the attacker to decide on his future to avoid ending up in a similar position as last season.

Due to injury, Callum Hudson-Odoi had missed out on a large chunk of last season. He missed a total of a string of exceptional performances for the Blues. The 21-year-old was on fire. He became the missing piece to Chelsea’s creative puzzle from the left-wing, and it seemed as though Thomas Tuchel agreed. His natural left-wing position suits him to the point that fans were calling to see it on a weekly basis.
Luck hasn’t always been in his favour under Tuchel, unfortunately. He’s found himself being played out of position, often as a wing-back to cover for injuries or to suit tactical tweaks. To show the world exactly why the likes of Bayern Munich were after him in the first place, he would need to be gifted with consistent game time. He did not have that luxury under Sarri, Frank Lampard or Tuchel. Maybe he can get what he’s looking for over with Eddie Howe.
The Blues have always had a loan system that - like it or not - just works. Talents such as Mason Mount and Reece James both went out on loan before joining the Chelsea first team. It wouldn’t do much harm for Hudson-Odoi to join the list of players that have needed a loan to help their career. A fan’s worst nightmare would be to loan him out and eventually reap negative consequences as a result.
