Call the Midwife shares Christmas special teaser and return of much-loved character to the show

Call the Midwife gave a behind-the-scenes glimpse of their Christmas special filming this week, revealing that a much-loved character will be returning to the show.

With just weeks to go until the BBC show's Christmas special, as well as a new series, those behind the period drama took to social media to share a sneak peak of what's to come. And fans of the show were thrilled to learn that of actor Max Macmillan would be returning to his role of Timothy Turner.

Macmillan has been a part of the show for 11 years and made his debut in Call the Midwife's Christmas special back in 2012. His character Timothy is the son of Dr Patrick Turner and now working as a a trainee doctor.

And this year's Christmas special will see him return from medical school for the holidays.

Posting a photo of Macmillan on set to Instagram, a spokesperson for the show said: "Not only is the young student doctor expected to help his parents in the surgery, but his skills as a musician are also put to the test when he takes a major part in organising a festive talent show!

"The musical side is no great burden to Max, who is a talented musician and music graduate. We have called for his musical assistance at various times over the 11 years. He's been on our show as both man and boy, and he has always produced the goods. But this year, he is required to assess the talents of others... some with rather different talents to his own.

"Where would our Christmas be without our wonderful Max, who we've watched grow from a tiny boy into a fine young medic and musician. After all, isn't watching much-loved faces around our Christmas table growing a little every year part of the true seasonal spirit?"
