Call The Midwife fans have been left both delighted and relieved by the announcement that the hit BC drama has been confirmed for two more series, with the news coming amid anger that the current series finale has been delayed.
Call The Midwife has now been a staple of Sunday night TV for over a decade, with millions of viewers thoroughly invested in the goings on in Poplar, chiefly the nuns of Nonnatus House. As well as giving fans plenty of heart-warming moments over the years, most recently Matthew's proposal to popular character Trixie, there has also been some major drama, with the fatal train crash of last series leaving two main protagonists' lives hanging in the balance.
Just like its predecessors, series 12 of Call The Midwife has been a big ratings hit for the BBC, with it dealing with a host of hard-hitting issues like racism and teenage pregnancy, as well as the build up to Trixie and Matthew's wedding. And one of the episodes that really concerned viewers, saw Nonnatus House dealt the massive blow of potential closure by the Health Board, who declared they could close it down whenever they see fit.
As well as being a blow to the nuns, plenty of Call The Midwife fans at home were left wondering what that could mean for the future of the show, worried it would jeopardise its chances of running for much longer.
However, they can now breathe a sigh of relief as it has been officially confirmed that two more series of Call The Midwife have been commissioned. That now takes the smash hit drama up to series 15, with the already announced series 13 set to start its filming in the spring.
Series 14 and 15 of Call The Midwife will include eight 60-minute episodes each, along with Christmas specials as well.
The good news about Call The Midwife's future, comes as fans hit out at the BBC for pushing the series 12 finale, cantered around Trixie and Matthew's wedding, back a week to make way for this year's BAFTAs.
