A call has been made for Strathearn to be given the power to control its own affairs.
Former headteacher and now author and radio presenter Roger Cartwright put himself forward as a candidate for the 2022 local elections.
He failed to be elected but Dr Cartwright shared his bid for Strathearn's independence as he attended last Friday's count at Perth's Dewars Centre.
Dr Cartwright would love to see Crieff and the whole Strathearn area given its own council.
Sporting a white "R" for Roger rosette at last Friday's count, he told the LDRS: "I want Strathearn to be a distinct council. The less they have to do with Perth the better."
He added: "I worked for Kent [County] Council and they are doing the opposite and decentralising things.
"I've worked for a large number of councils and never met one as bad as Perth and Kinross Council."
In England smaller parish councils can have powers over areas such as street lighting, parking and play areas.
The idea of decisions being made more locally is not new to Perth and Kinross. A pilot project was recently launched in Kinross-shire devolving some local decisions to a local committee. The Kinross-shire local committee is comprised of Kinross-shire councillors and local community councillors.
The Kinross-shire Local Committee met for the first time in January 2022 after councillors agreed last year to pilot the project. The aim of the committee is to bring decision-making closer to the residents.
The committee has been granted the power to make decisions on economic development, tourism, community transport, road safety, footpaths and infrastructure projects. However it cannot make decisions on quasi-judicial matters such as planning and licensing applications.
The success - or failure - of the committee could possibly determine whether or not it gets rolled out elsewhere in Perth and Kinross to areas such as Strathearn.
A spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council said: "The Kinross-shire Local Committee was set up by the council as a pilot for a year and will be evaluated at the end. It will be up to the new council to determine whether the committee continues and what happens in terms of any decision making at a local level going forward."
