Gavin Newsom, a Democrat and governor of California, has an ongoing point of contention with Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida and Republican presidential candidate.
The controversy involves policy around how to handle immigrants and asylum seekers.

This time, it hit close to home for Newsom, and he is not pulling punches.
Migrants from Venezuela and Colombia arrived in Sacramento, the California capital, by a chartered jet. They ended up at a church, Newsom said, according to the Los Angeles Times.
And Newsom took to Twitter to express his view on the action. It included a reference to a kidnapping accusation.
"On Monday, a plane carrying 20 migrants arrived in Sacramento," reported the Times. "Both groups were flown by the same contractor and were carrying documents indicating that their transportation involved the state of Florida, according to officials with the California Department of Justice."
The dispute drew opinions from a number of sources.
"It’s potent to both bases -- as most moves on immigration are,” said Mike Madrid, a Republican consultant, according to the Times. "Republicans love DeSantis for this, and Democrats love the opportunity to showcase Democratic acceptance and tolerance."
A spokesperson for the nonprofit PICO California explained the situation in his view.
"They were taken from nowhere and dropped in the middle of the capital of California with nothing on their backs," he said, according to the Times. "They deserve actions taken that are in service to their inherent dignity as people, and anything less than that would be an affront to their humanity."
In September 2022, Newsom had taken issue with DeSantis, who took responsibility for the transportation of immigrants to Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts.
He posted a letter he wrote, at the time, to Twitter.
