California Finally Eases Smog Rules For Classic Cars Thanks To 'Leno's Law'

• California Senate Bill 1392, dubbed "Leno's Law," has been signed by Governor Gavin Newsom.
• The law extends smog exemptions for collector cars up to model year 1985 through a rollout process starting in 2028 and continuing up to 2033.
• This is not a blanket smog exemption for all pre-1986 vehicles and specifically targets collector cars registered as such or vehicles driven fewer than 1,000 miles per year.

California gets a bad rap from car enthusiasts, but the state actually has one of the biggest and most vibrant enthusiast and collector-car scenes in the entire country. And for a handful of those collectors, owning and maintaining their cars just got a little bit easier.
