A tragic incident unfolded in Mexico as a California couple, Rafael and Gloria Cardona, were fatally shot while visiting family in Angamacutiro, Michoacan state. The couple's vehicle was targeted by armed gunmen, resulting in Gloria's immediate death at the scene and Rafael passing away shortly after in the hospital.
Fortunately, their three children, two of whom are minors, were not present during the attack and are currently under the care of extended family members in Angamacutiro. The US State Department is providing support to the couple's adult daughter during this difficult time.
