USC quarterback Caleb Williams is likely to become a member of the Chicago Bears on April 25 as the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
Unless the team chooses to go in an opposite direction away from the player deemed by many to be a “generational talent” with the No. 1 overall pick, that’s what the former USC quarterback’s future holds.
There have been rumors, though, far ahead of the NFL Combine that there is a chance Williams could refuse to play for the Bears and demand a trade. That doesn’t seem to be the case, though, as the signal-caller himself put those claims to rest.
“If I get drafted by the Bears, I’ll be excited,” Williams said during an interview with Pete Thamel of ESPN. “If they trade the pick, and I get drafted by someone else, I’m just as excited. Speaking about Chicago, they have a talented team, a talented offense and defense. For anyone to be in that situation, I think they’d be excited.”
It has been evident Chicago may be ready to move on from starting quarterback Justin Fields and Williams has made clear he has “no agenda” moving forward.
“I’m not pushing any agenda,” said during the spring when questioned on if he would ever consider requesting a trade. “At the end of the day, the Bears have the last say. Regardless of how I feel, I’m not pushing an agenda of, ‘Yeah, I want to go. Or no, I don’t want to go.’ I’m excited for whatever comes.”
Williams continues to lead mock drafts at most major outlets as the projected No. 1 overall pick, and seeing him land anywhere other than Chicago would be nothing short of a surprise at this point.
