Caitriona Balfe dazzles in red plunge dress at star studded SAG Awards after backlash from Outlander fans over premiere

Caitríona Balfe dazzled in red whilst Jamie Dornan channelled his inner Fifty shades style in grey as they stepped out on the star studded SAG Awards red carpet.

The Belfast co-stars stunned alongside their fellow cast members Jude Hill and Ciaran Hinds and director and writer Kenneth Branagh, for the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.

Whilst she missed out on the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, Caitrionia made a statement on the night in a plunging Saint Laurent red gown as she rubbed shoulders with Hollywood’s leading stars.

It comes after the new mum shut down criticism from fans over her absence at the worldwide premiere for the Outlander season six premiere in London.

In the midst of a busy awards season, Caitriona, who just welcomed her first child last year, opted to attend the star-studded event at London's Royal Festival Hall virtually on Thursday.

After disappointed fans hit out at her absence, Caitriona took to Twitter saying: "To all those saying it's shameful I'm not there in person, I understand you're disappointed but I also ask for some understanding as a new mom.

“I'm trying to do the best I can and not being able to fly across the world like I used to is a change but we are adapting…."

In a follow-up tweet, she added: "I'll be there virtually for red carpet and panel and it's not @Outlander_STARZ's fault … We're all trying to give you all the best experience we can in new and challenging circumstances."

After the absence of in person awards in recent years, the glamorous 28th annual SAG awards saw the biggest stars in the acting world turn up the stakes as they stepped out for the night.

It was a night full of shocks and surprises, and emotional acknowledgments of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a number of stars shared their support on stage.

Will Smith and Jessica Chastain won the awards for best actors in the film categories.

South Korea’s Squid Game made history by becoming the first non-English language TV series to win a SAG award, as they got the nod for outstanding action performance by a stunt ensemble in a television series.

Star Lee Jung-Jae also won the award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series, beating out huge competition in a category that included heavyweights like Succession stars Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin.

Jung Ho-Yeon, who played Kang Sae-byeok in the hit Netflix series, bagged the award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series category.

The Succession actors didn’t win any solo awards, but the HBO cast were still celebrating as they were honoured later as the best ensemble performance in a drama series category.

The night excitement on the night also saw Dame Helen Mirrren being handed the lifetime achievement award for her contribution to the industry, whilst fans went wild as Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper reunited with a public display of affection after they captured the hearts of millions in A Star Is Born.
