Indiana Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark finally got her first career points in the second quarter of her team’s season opener against the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday night.
However, it didn’t happen like you’d expect.
Clark is known for her prowess from the 3-point line, but her first basket as a professional came on a steal where she drove the ball to the basket and went in for the automatic layup.
Most people probably thought Clark would throw it up for three for her first points as a WNBA player, but it’s just hard to predict how these situations will go once the game starts.

Funny enough, Clark actually joked before the game that she wanted her first basket to be a layup. She got her wish, just a bit later than we all expected.

While there will be plenty more baskets for Clark as her rookie season continues, she’ll always remember how it all started: on a layup in Connecticut.
