- Smoke from an ongoing wildfire in Cairngorms National Park has drifted over 50 miles to Aberdeen due to changing weather conditions, leading the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to advise residents to keep windows and doors closed.
- The wildfire, which started near Glenmore last Wednesday, previously necessitated the evacuation of residents and campsites, and at its height, covered an area of about six square kilometres of heather and small trees.
- More than 100 firefighters, supported by specialist wildfire appliances, all-terrain vehicles, and partner agencies, have been mobilised to the incident, with ongoing helicopter water-bombing operations assisting efforts.
- Deputy Assistant Chief Officer Michael Humphreys described the situation as "dynamic and unpredictable," noting that changing wind conditions frequently cause flare-ups and alter the direction of smoke, despite progress being made.
- RSPB Scotland , whose Loch Garten Nature Reserve is close to the fire, reported that the fire threat at RSPB Abernethy has been increasing since Thursday afternoon, with their staff and volunteers actively supporting the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
