Cachar gets one of nine new law colleges

SILCHAR: Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu laid the foundation stone for the construction of a government law college at Chiripul in Cachar district on Saturday. This is one of the nine new law colleges and the first government law college in the Barak Valley area.

“There are only a handful of government law colleges in the state. So, it has decided to build nine new law colleges. A sum of Rs 15.50 crore has been allocated for the construction of the law college at Chiripul in Lakhipur sub-division of Cachar district,” the minister said.

“According to the state government’s decision, the foundation stone of one of the nine government law colleges of the state was laid in Lakhipur today,” Pegu said.

The minister, who reached Silchar on Friday, visited different schools on the third day of Gunotsav on Saturday and took part in the evaluation phase. During the exercise, Pegu asked the students some questions from their textbooks and received satisfactory answers from them. He played the role of a teacher and had an interactive session and exchanged ideas with the students and teachers of the school.

The minister spoke about the state’s new education policy saying the government is mulling to make all the streams (arts, science and commerce) operational in every college.
