C.J. Stroud did not hold back when it came to his appreciation for general manager Nick Caserio.
The former Ohio State quarterback was recounting a discussion he had with former Alabama defensive end Will Anderson two weeks before the draft.
“We were with each other in Texas a couple of days ago shooting a video,” Stroud said April 28 at NRG Stadium. “We were like, ‘What if we were teammates?’ And now we are. Shout out to Nick. You’re doing a great job.”
As soon as the Texans picked Stroud, they turned around and pulled off a trade with the Arizona Cardinals to move up to No. 3 overall and take Anderson.
Caserio took the compliment from Stroud in stride.
“Just play well,” Caserio laughed. “That’s all.”
“I got to show Nick some love,” Stroud said. “He’s the one who made it happen.”
