The drummer of Butthole Surfers, Teresa Taylor, has died at the age of 60 her bandmates have confirmed in an emotional statement.
The musician had been fighting her lung disease diagnosis for a long time her pals said.
In the sad announcement on social media, her bandmates wrote: "Teresa Taylor passed away peacefully this weekend after a long battle with lung disease. She will live in our hearts forever. RIP, dear friend."
Teresa first joined the rock band back in 1983 when their hit tune Pepper was released.
She remained part of the group throughout the 1980s before light-induced seizures made her quit her role in 1989.
The condition later led to her brain aneurysm diagnosis.
In 1993, Teresa had brain surgery and was later able to perform again, joining Coffey’s band Rubble.
However, in 2021, the star revealed she had been diagnosed with end-stage lung disease.
She stunned her fans with the Facebook announcement at the time and only a year later she revealed "death was imminent".
"I know that I tried to live a cool life and you guys are the proof," she wrote. "It's all been a blast....Ciao."
Following the news of her death, fans took to the band's Twitter post to share their messages of condolence.
One user wrote: "Damn. Sorry to hear. Condolences to everyone who knew and loved her."
Another penned: "RIP you absolute legend."
A third, meanwhile, quote tweeted the band's announcement and added: "For a good 5-6 years in the 80s they were the best live band going. I used to see them every time they passed through NY from their very first show at CBGB’s in about 82 or 83. RIP."
And a fourth put: "She literally did it until she couldn't, then she walked away. Only respect and light for Teresa Taylor."
