Ratko Mladić, the Bosnian Serb general convicted of genocide for his role in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre and crimes committed during the siege of Sarajevo, has died aged 84 while serving a life sentence at the United Nations detention centre in The Hague on 27 August 2026.

The death was confirmed by a UN official, Serbian state broadcaster RTS, and Mladić's lawyer, Dragan Ivetić, according to reports from Reuters, the Associated Press, CNN and Deutsche Welle.
