Busy Edinburgh road closed following collision as emergency services rush to scene

Emergency services have rushed to a busy Edinburgh road following a rush hour collision between a car and a pedestrian.

Calder Road, near the Bankhead roundabout, is currently closed to westbound traffic following what appears to be a serious collision, with several police vehicles and ambulances in attendance.

The incident took place shortly after 7am on Tuesday morning, July 4, as commuters in the area have been warned of delays. It is understood several Lothian Bus services have been diverted.

Images from the scene show a section of the road closed to traffic with several police vehicles and a smashed up grey car at the roadside. Posting the images, one eye witness wrote: "Looks like a serious accident on Calder Road. I’d avoid the area and fingers crossed it’s not as bad as what it looks."

Another motorist who passed the scene shortly after the accident said: "Serious road traffic accident on Calder Road, near the Fire Station & Sighthill Roundabout, in Sighthill, Edinburgh.

"Multiple Police & Ambulance vehicles in attendance Westbound lanes closed; Avoid area. Lothian Buses (25, 34, 35 & others being diverted.)"

The pedestrian's condition is currently unknown. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Calder Road in Edinburgh around 7am on Tuesday, 4 July.

"The road is currently closed and emergency services are at the scene." The Scottish Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
