A major Ayrshire road has reopened today following a serious crash.
Road bosses confirmed this afternoon that traffic is allowed back on the westbound carriageway of the A71 after a tanker flipped on the route on Thursday afternoon.
The road has been closed for almost three days following the crash that saw debris from the lorry strike a minibus.
A 71-year-old woman was taken to hospital as a precaution following the crash.
While the eastbound carriageway reopened almost four hours after the smash, the westbound stretch had suffered serious damage and needed urgent repairs.
Ayrshire Roads Alliance confirmed today: "The Westbound carriageway of the A71 from Moorfield Roundabout to Corsehill Roundabout has re-opened as resurfacing works have been completed, all diversions have been removed."
Police Scotland said on Friday: A Police Scotland spokesperson added: "Around 3.35pm on Thursday, March 2, a tanker overturned on the A71 at the Moorfield Roundabout near Kilmarnock.
"A minibus travelling behind the tanker struck debris on the road and a 71-year-old female passenger was taken by ambulance to hospital as a precaution.
"The eastbound carriageway was reopened around 7pm. The westbound carriageway remains closed and enquiries are ongoing."
