Musgrave, 34, of Devonshire Road in Weston-super-Mare, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm in June last year.

The Recorder of Bristol His Honour Judge Peter Blair QC handed him a three months prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, with rehabilitation and a mental health requirement.

Musgrave was also fined £75 for breaching terms of a suspended sentence.

The judge told Musgrave: "You consumed alcohol.

"It occurred less than a year into a suspended sentence for supply of drugs.

"You have a lot of previous convictions.

"But there is a degree of stability back in your life now and things are settling down."

Rhianna Fricker, prosecuting, said Musgrave was involved in an altercation in the George and Dragon in which a woman punched him to the face and he punched her back before punching Mr Holcombe to the nose.

Miss Fricker said Musgrave was ejected from the premises, but followed Mr Holcombe and hit him to the face, cutting him above his eye.

Mr Holcombe went to hospital, received six stitches and suffered a seizure which kept him in for three nights.

Robert Morgan-Jones, defending, said his client had long-standing mental health difficulties and had been drinking on the night in question.

He told the court: "There was no provocation attributable to this victim.

"Mr Holcombe behaved perfectly properly and played peacemaker in the pub."

Mr Morgan-Jones added that Musgrave had a new mental health coordinator, a "road map" for the future and course lined up.
