Bushwalkers are being turned away from one of Tasmania's most popular hiking trails as a significant bushfire threatens the landscape.

Tasmanian authorities have closed the Overland Track for the next three days due to a fire about 5km southwest of Pelion West at Canning Peak on Cradle Mountain the state's west.
