Buses across Merseyside targeted by missiles for three nights

Missiles were thrown at buses during last year’s Halloween and Bonfire celebrations across Merseyside.

In a bid to combat anti-social behaviour, stakeholders including Liverpool Council, Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service launched Operation Banger during the period of Halloween and Bonfire Night. Despite this, reports from the fire service and city council detailed how last year, reports of crime rose.

A quarterly update on Merseytravel’s bus network has revealed how their vehicles were also targeted by vandals during the period last year. The report by Matt Goggins, Liverpool City Region assistant director for bus, said: “During the three key nights of Operation Banger (30 and 31 October and 5 November) there were 23 incidents that resulted in smashed windows compared to nine to the previous year.
