Busa-Powered Car Does Drift Wheelies, No Really

We've talked a lot about Liam Doran's Hayabusa-powered racecar in the past. Why? Because it's a brilliantly mad thing.

Designed as a grass racer for the English countryside, the car has been modified to within an inch of its life and given the heart of two Hayabusas, albeit with forced induction and a lot more horsepower than stock. As such, in the past we've seen it do all manner of insane stunts, most notably popping sick wheelies as if its heart was still powering a two-wheeler.

But Liam's latest stunt is one for the record books as, not content with just pretending to be a 12 o'clock boy, the racer just did the first wheelie drift. Yes, you read that right. Doran's Hayabusa-powered racecar can pop a wheelie, sustain it, and then drift around as if it were in Formula D.

Insert Keanu Reeves "Whoa" gif here.

You ever see a wheelie done while drifting...

I'm at a loss of words for what I see in that clip above. I mean, I get the forces and physics involved, as Doran pops the wheelie as he was turning the racer, so it's just momentum and power at that point. But the control he displays is nothing short of insane. How does he keep it going? How does he keep it from hitting the Jersey barriers that are only a few feet from the car? How does he bloody do that?!

The answer, most likely, is he has more seat time with his personal racecar than anyone else. And skill. Lots and lots of skill. I doubt, given the chance, I could even pop a wheelie in the Busa-powered Mini. But, if given the chance, I'd certainly try. You only live once, am I right?

Maybe if I goad Doran enough, he'll let me have a go and I'll get the chance to do a wheelie drift too? Or maybe I'd crash into a wall. Only one way to find out, Liam. Only one way to find out.
