Bus driver arrested on suspicion of drug driving after pedestrian left fighting for life in Croydon collision

A bus driver has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after a collision left a pedestrian in his 30s fighting for his life.

The victim remains in a critical condition following the incident, which happened in George Street, Croydon, at roughly 1.10pm on Saturday.

Poice and paramedics were scrambled to the scene and the man was taken to hospital

The road was closed in both directions as police investigated the scene, near East Croydon station.

The bus driver remains in custody as police confirmed he had been detained on suspicion of drug driving.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Police were called to George Street, Croydon, at 13.09hrs on Saturday, 5 October to reports of a collision between a bus and a pedestrian.

“Officers attended along with paramedics from London Ambulance Service.

“A man in his 30s was found injured. He has been taken to hospital, where he remains in a life-threatening condition. The bus driver has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving. He has been taken into custody.”
