A bus driver has been arrested after a woman in her 60s died after being hit by a double decker in north London.
Police and paramedics were called to Baron Street, Islington following reports of a collision between a Metroline double decker and a pedestrian at 2.30pm on Thursday.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her next of kin have been informed and support will be provided to them by specially trained officers.
Road closures were put in place at the junction with White Lion Street, Angel.
The Metropolitan Police said the driver of the bus, a man aged in his 40s, stopped at the scene.
He was arrested for causing death by careless driving and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Rosie Trew, Transport for London’s head of bus service delivery, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who was tragically killed following a collision with a bus in Angel.
“Making London’s transport network safer is our top priority and we are working with the operator, Metroline, to assist the police with their investigation.
“We have support available for anyone affected by this tragic incident.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 2.26pm to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of White Lion Street and Baron Street, Islington.
“We sent a number of resources including ambulance crews, an incident response officer and London’s air ambulance.
“We treated a woman but, sadly, despite our best efforts she died at the scene.”
