Bus bursts into flames on busy Scottish road as fire crews battle blaze for hours

A terrifying bus fire closed a Scottish road for hours as smoke was seen billowing into the air from over a mile away.

The double decker was engulfed in flames on the B981 between Crossgates and Inverkeithing in Fife as fire crews rushed to the scene on Monday afternoon.

Shocking images from a passer-by shows the vehicle lit up in orange flames on one side of the road as it took the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service two hours to extinguish the blaze.

The Record reports how the alarm was raised around 2:40pm on Monday, November 28, with clouds of thick black smoke filling the sky above. There were no reported injuries as a result of the fire and the cause is currently unknown.

Firefighters left the scene at 4.10pm after successfully putting the flames out.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 2.34pm on Monday, November 28 to reports of a bus on fire between Crossgates and Fordell on the B981. Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and crews quickly extinguished the fire.

"There no reported casualties and firefighters left the scene once ensuring the area was made safe."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 2.40pm on Monday, November 28, we were called to a report of a bus on fire on the B981 between Crossgates and Inverkeithing. Emergency services are currently in attendance and the road is closed."
