Bus builder awarded £62m for 137 zero emission vehicles to be manufactured in Falkirk

Falkirk bus builder Alexander Dennis has been award a £62 million contract to build 137 zero emission buses, as part of the first phase of the Zero Emission Bus Challenge Fund.

It's the largest investment made in Scotland to date to decarbonise buses and supports the Scottish Government 's Mission Zero ambition for transport.

The buses will replace 276 old diesel buses with new battery-electric models.

Transport Sectary Michael Matheson, who is also MSP for Falkirk West, has welcomed this investment.

He said: "This investment from the Scottish Government supports local green skilled jobs in Falkirk, and the Scottish supply chain. This is excellent news for the local economy and in the transition to net zero.

"I welcome the £62 million from the Scottish Government’s first phase of the Zero Emission Bus Challenge Fund, and for 137 zero emission buses to be built in Falkirk by Alexander Dennis."
