Burton Joyce villagers speaker out on Hooters sponsoring under 10s football team

News that Hooters was to sponsor a village under 10s football team in Nottinghamshire led to headlines across the country. But just one day after the news was announced the Football Association told Burton Joyce under-10s football team that they must cease their sponsorship

Now some local residents residents have shared their views on the news that was first announced by Hooters in a Facebook post on Thursday, September 1

Some in Burton Joyce seemed to have mixed views on the matter. When asked how he felt about Hooter's sponsorship, semi-retired, Roger Mayfield, 63, of Burton Joyce, said: "It's an interesting issue, I suppose it's not appropriate. There are ways of raising funds and sponsorship without involving that kind of service.

"I don't have children, but if I did I would not think it was appropriate for my child to be connected with that kind of activity. Another resident who did not wish to be named said: "I have heard that they are being sponsored by Hooters, I'm sure there are better sponsors, but I am sure the team would appreciate the sponsorship.

"My children are older now, but I've had children in team sports where I know that any sponsorship is valuable." Student,

Ben Robertson, 19, of Burton Joyce, said: "I used to play for Burton Joyce, so I don't really know. If I was playing it wouldn't have a problem with it, but I can see why the older generation may have an issue with it."

Kevin Guise, 67, is an referee for Burton Joyce's adult football team and believes it is "important" to support football.

When asked about the sponsorship, Kevin said: "They are supporting the local community."

A 70 year old resident who did not wish to be named did not agree with the sponsorship. He said: "Hooters is really a ludicrous outlet, and they are not interested in football either so it's in poor taste."

Nottinghamshire Live has attempted to contact the club for a comment.

In a statement, Nottinghamshire FA said: "The County FA had not been approached by the club seeking sanction for the sponsorship and had we have been, the request would have been declined in accordance with FA rules appertaining to the Kit and Advertising Regulations.

"From being made aware of the sponsorship we have been working with the club to reinforce their understanding of the regulations surrounding such sponsorship.

"We understand the difficult climate that grassroots football operates within and urge any club seeking investment from sponsorship that they are fully aware of the regulations or contact us for clarification
