Burnham warned mansion tax could leave councils worse off

Councils have warned that the planned "mansion tax" could cause confusion, undermine accountability and impact local services.

The charge on properties valued above £2 million, announced by Rachel Reeves in the autumn budget, would be "complex" and create an "inefficient parallel system" to council tax, the Local Government Association (LGA) said.
