Merseyside Police have issued a warning to homeowners in two parts of Liverpool after a spate of burglaries.
The alert was sent out to Allerton and Cressington in the L18 postcode in the south of the city following break ins. In a post on Facebook earlier, police said both areas had been hit and urged people to take precautions to try to deter any potential burglars.
The post said: “Please beware of recent burglaries in the Allerton/Cressington wards L18. We advise you to lock all windows and doors and keep valuables out of sight and out of reach of opportunist burglars.” Merseyside Police also provide a lot of general information on how to protect your home from burglary on their website.

These include advice for increased security around windows and doors to prevent burglars from accessing them. Police advise homeowners to take extra measures such as attaching locks to limit how far a window can be opened, as well as encouraging people to look around their property and remove any bins or other things that burglars could use to stand on to access a window.
The force also provides guidance for other general methods to protect your home, such as the use of alarms and extra lighting. Officers advise that keeping areas of your home visible and well lit, with few obstructions, can help reduce the number of places where a burglary could hide.
There is also information on the use of CCTV, something which has become increasingly popular with homeowners. Police say this can be useful but warn it does not substitute for good quality physical security.
