Fast food chain and home of the Whopper, Burger King, has announced a new menu update that will come as music to the ears of vegans this January. Whether you’re a seasoned plant-based foodie or are giving Veganuary a go, their latest launch is said to take Burger King’s plant based menu ‘to the next level’.
From Wednesday, January 4, customers will be able to get their hands on the popular Bacon King range. But for those who would rather ditch the meat, there’s a brand new ‘Bakon King’ - a fully certified vegan alternative, available for the very first time.
Full of crispy vegan La Vie Bakon and a slice of Violife Cheeeze, the meat-free burger has even been supported by animal welfare charity PETA, who described the meal as ‘sensational’.

Following successful trials during the meat-free takeovers in Leicester Square and Bristol, guests will be able to personalise any plant-based burger supplied by The Vegetarian Butcher with vegan Cheeeze or Bakon add-ons.
What’s more, is that Burger King app users will have the chance to get a sneak preview before the burgers arrive in restaurants. Customers can download the app and try the plant-based burger before anyone else, with a buy-one-get-one-free offer on the Vegan Royale Bakon King and the Plant-Based Bakon King single running until January 3.
Katie Evans, from Burger King UK said: “We’re incredibly proud of our new menu additions and confident that our customers will enjoy the new plant-based bacon and cheese as much as we have in taste tests. The extension of our plant-based offer reflects our ongoing commitment to serve a diverse and innovative range of products, whilst aiming to reach a 50 per cent meat-free menu by 2030.”
And they’re not the only global chain that is appealing to the meat-free market as Veganuary begins, with McDonald’s also revealing a new menu item to celebrate the month. Fans of the McPlant will be able to get their hands on a Double McPlant in every McDonad's restaurant in the UK from Wednesday, too.
The Double McPlant will cost £4.89 individually and £6.49 as part of a meal, although prices may vary on location.
