Burger King fans in Gateshead can get their hands on a free Whopper this week - but they'll have to be quick.
The fast food giant has opened a new branch in the Metrocentre 's MetrOasis food and drink site, which is also home to Starbucks, Krispy Kreme and Toby Carvery. To celebrate the occasion, Burger King are giving away 1,000 of their signature patties for free from the new restaurant on Wednesday 14 December.
Whoppers and Plant-based Whoppers will be available to customers on a first come, first served basis on the day. All diners need to do is head to the Burger King website to retrieve a code and show it to staff at the counter to claim their free burger.

The deal will be available exclusively to Burger King app users, so anyone hoping to get their hands on a free Whopper will also need to download the fast food chain's app. Alasdair Murdoch, CEO of Burger King UK, said: "We know the people of Gateshead love the great-tasting food of Burger King, so we’ve listened to their requests and are very excited to bring all their favourites to their neighbourhood. Our home – of the Whopper! – is their home."
Burger King isn't the only food venue to have opened its doors in the Metrocentre recently. Korean-inspired restaurant Grounded Kitchen arrived in the Upper Qube on Monday 12 December as the chain's first in the North East.
Specialising in 'feel-good food' such as its popular 'nourish bowls' made up of marinated vegetables, rice, and a choice of meat, fish, or a vegetarian option, Grounded Kitchen's healthy dishes include SsamBaps (Korean lettuce wraps) and Korean Bao (steamed buns). Meanwhile, Spanish chain Tapas Revolution opened in the Metrocentre in November and Texas' Wingstop is set to arrive in mid-December serving up chicken wings, tenders, burgers and platters.
