Bulwell pub temporarily shut as it undergoes £260k revamp

A Nottinghamshire pub has temporarily shut for a £260,000 refurbishment. Work has started at The Oxford in Bulwell, following its closure earlier this month.

Locals were mystified by the closure of the pub in Highbury Vale after a post on the pub's Facebook page said: "Sorry we're closed until further notice. Sorry for the inconvenience."

It added: "But don’t worry we will be back open again in a few weeks. On behalf of everyone at The Oxford we would like to say a big thank you for your continued support and custom."

Metal fencing has gone up in front of the pub. A Bulwell resident said: "It has been closed since January 8 and no explanation for it. They say they will be back soon but nothing seems to be happening."

However, a spokesperson for Craft Union Pub Company said: "We are excited to announce that we are investing over £260,000 in The Oxford Hotel in Bulwell. It is currently undergoing a refurbishment and is due to reopen in early February.

"Guests can expect the best of hospitality, entertainment and live sport from this community pub. Offering a fantastic range of great value beers, wines and spirits, together with a jam-packed events schedule, there will truly be something for everyone.

"Keep an eye out on our social media and website for more information."
