Footage captured the moment children playing baseball were forced to avoid gunfire as bullets flew across a field.
Gunshots were fired during the children’s baseball game on Monday at the Mission Sports Park in San Diego during a San Marcos Youth baseball league game shortly before 8pm.
Bullets reportedly struck the ground within several feet of one child, authorities said - with another bullet found in a dugout.
The incident prompted a lockdown of the nearby Palomar College, with the league cancelling all activities on Tuesday.
Deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station responded to the scene but did not find anyone injured, according to a police statement.
Officers appealed to anyone with further information or who witnessed the shooting to contact the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station.
In a statement, the Sheriff department said: "Detectives from the San Marcos Sheriff's Station and San Diego County Crime Stoppers want your help in finding out who was responsible for a shooting near a sports park.
"It happened on Monday, May 8 just before 8pm near Mission Sports Park located in the 900 block of Bailey Court in San Marcos."
Deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff's Station responded to the scene after getting reports of someone discharging a firearm near the park.
Police searched the area but didn't find anyone who had been shot or was hurt.
"Surveillance video from one of the baseball fields at the park captured audio of what sounded like gunfire, as well as some kind of projectile hitting the field," the Sheriff department added.
