In a scene reminiscent of the Old West, a bull made a daring escape from an Illinois farm, sparking a dramatic pursuit that ended with the animal being lassoed by men on horseback. The incident unfolded in Marengo, located approximately 60 miles northwest of Chicago.
The McHenry County Sheriff's Office issued a warning via Facebook around 4:30 p.m. alerting the public about a loose bull in the area. This prompted humorous comments, with one person advising city dwellers not to attempt to milk the cow.
Video footage captured the intense chase as six men on horseback corralled the 1,200-pound black angus crossbreed through a pasture. Despite breaking free from one lasso, the bull was eventually captured on the outskirts of Union, with three men successfully restraining the animal.
After a brief struggle, the men managed to calm the bull down and guide it back to the farm it had escaped from earlier in the day. The capture took place around 6:45 p.m., ensuring the safety of both the bull and the community.
Farmer Ken Bauman, who was involved in the pursuit, described the bull as having a temper but acknowledged its fear during the ordeal. Concerns were raised about the bull potentially wandering onto a roadway, posing a risk to passing vehicles.
Neighboring farmers, including the Baumans, kept a watchful eye on the bull throughout the afternoon. It was revealed that the bull had only recently arrived at the farm, which may have contributed to its escape.
Authorities confirmed that the bull was unharmed and in good condition following its return home, bringing an end to the unexpected escapade that captured the attention of the local community.
