More than 23 centuries after audiences first gathered beneath its stone tiers, the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus in Greece is still doing what it was built to do, bringing people together for live performances. Unlike countless ancient theatres that survive only as fragments of the past, Epidaurus remains remarkably intact and continues to stage plays every summer. Famed for its exceptional acoustics, elegant architecture and historical importance, the theatre forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Sanctuary of Asklepios. Its continued use makes it one of the rare places where visitors can experience ancient Greek drama in almost the same setting as audiences did over two millennia ago.
