Buffalo Bills' Damar Hamlin in critical condition after collapsing on field during NFL game

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is in a critical condition after collapsing on the field during a primetime US National Football League game.

The 24-year-old fell to the ground after colliding with an opponent during his team's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. His club confirmed in a new statement this morning that he suffered a cardiac arrest.

"Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals,” the Bills posted on their official Twitter account. "His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment.

"He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.” The NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the game had been postponed following the incident, which occurred during the first half.

In a statement, the NFL said: “Hamlin received immediate medical attention on the field by team and independent medical staff and local paramedics. He was then transported to a local hospital where he is in a critical condition.

"Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide more information as it becomes available.

"The NFL has been in constant communication with the NFL Players Association which is in agreement with postponing the game."

Players from both teams gathered around Hamlin on the field as emergency workers gave him CPR and oxygen. Several looked visibly upset, with some praying after the incident.
