Budget-busting Labor casts tax-cut cost stone at rivals

Not best known for its shrewd budgetary management, a Labor government has lobbed a tax grenade for a new shadow treasurer to diffuse.

The Victorian coalition has promised to scrap the expanded emergency services levy, short-stay accommodation levy and removal of payroll tax exemptions for high-fee private schools, if it wins the state election in November 2026.
