Budget airline announces new Edinburgh flights to Scandinavia this year

Edinburgh Airport is to become the latest route for the new Scandinavian airline Flyr as they announced five new destinations.

Edinburgh will be the only new airline company's UK destination, and is one of the five new routes across the globe.

The Norwegian based company started domestic flights last summer but have also been running an international service since August 21, and now they have decided to add more routes.

Flyr expect to have their new UK route to Edinburgh airport from Oslo in operation before Easter.

The airline firm say that three flights a week have been scheduled for the year-round service, starting on April 8, on a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Edinburgh airport aviation director Kate Sherry said: “It’s great to see a new airline like Flyr choosing Edinburgh for its first Scottish route – it really demonstrates the strength of the market and the desire to come and experience what our fantastic capital city and country has to offer.

“As part of our recovery plans it’s important that we work to both retain and grow connectivity to and from Scotland as we know there is a pent-up demand for travel, be it reuniting with families and friends or forging business links, and we will continue to map out a sustainable recovery for Edinburgh airport.”

Flyr will also add new flights from Oslo to Prague and Stockholm, followed by routes to Billund and Pisa.
