NEW DELHI: According to an online survey by the Times of India and professional services firm Deloitte, over 50 per cent of respondents said that they have invested in cryptocurrencies, while 74 per cent wanted it to be treated as a securities trading/investment when it comes to capital gains tax.
Cryptocurrencies as a medium of payment or investment have neither been authorized nor been regulated by any central authority in India. As of now, there are no rules or regulations or guidelines regarding their tax treatment either, and hence such transactions come with their own risks.
