BTech grad, 2 others held for ATM fraud

MEERUT: Ankur Singh, 25, a BTech graduate and alleged mastermind of a gang which siphoned off lakhs of rupees from bank accounts of unsuspecting people by fraudulently switching ATM cards, was arrested by Bulandshahr police late on Wednesday night. He along with two others – Parvez Alam and Mohd Yunus – had been duping people for the past one year in UP, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Delhi.

Singh told police that unemployment forced him to take to crime.

Giving details, Shlok Kumar, SSP Bulandshahr, said during a routine vehicle check, a police patrol team signalled a car to stop near Gulawati tiraha on Wednesday night. Instead, it tried to get away. Police cordoned off the car and arrested three people in it.

“One of the accused is an engineer. The other two are class X pass. We have also recovered Rs 1.12 lakh, 35 ATM cards, mobile phones and a car from them,” added Kumar. All three were residents of Bulandshahr district. Some 13 cases have been registered against the gang in the district.
