Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy enjoyed a humorous back-and-forth over the Northern Irishman’s collapse at the 2024 US Open.
Bryson DeChambeau & Rory McIlroy Share Joke Over Collapse At US Open
The duo shared their jovial encounter at Shadow Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas, where they are practicing for the next showdown event.
LIV Golf released footage of the two interacting, as McIlroy was asked about who he would like to face in the upcoming event.
McIlroy said: “I’d like to go up against Bryson and get him back for what he did to me at the US Open.”
To which DeChambeau responded: “To be fair, you kind of did that to yourself.”
The Northern Irishman appeared to take the comment in the correct manner, laughing and saying that he didn’t ‘really know where to go from there’.
Despite their different promotions, with McIlroy under PGA and DeChambeau representing LIV Golf – the pair are clearly on good terms.
It stems from McIlroy’s underwhelming performance in the final stages of the 2024 US Open, as the Northern Irishman looked set to win his first Major in a decade.
With just five-holes remaining at Pinehurst, McIlroy boasted a two-shot lead and looked to be on his way to victory before dropping three shots.
This dip in quality allowed DeChambeau to take over and clinch his second US Open in four years – with both McIlroy and DeChambeau being two of the favourites to win the competition in 2025 on UK betting sites.
DeChambeau will team up with Brooks Koepka, representing LIV Golf, to go against McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler who are playing for the PGA.
Being labelled ‘The Showdown’ event, the encounter will be formatted as an 18-hole event and the duos will gain points for each hole.
It is a moment in history for golf, as the tournament is the first of its kind in terms of prize money as Crypto.com have sponsored the event – meaning the $10 million prize money will be paid through cryptocurrency.
Although each team is representing their respective organisations, neither the PGA or LIV Golf are that involved in ‘The Showdown’.
It will take place in December and McIlroy spoke about the event, revealing how excited he is to be teaming up with Scheffler.
The Northern Irishman said: “I’m thrilled to partner with Scottie in what promises to be an exciting duel against Bryson and Brooks in Vegas this December.
“This isn’t just a contest between some of golf’s major champions; it’s an event designed to energise the fans.
“At a time where the professional game has felt divided, we believe this event can bring fans an incredible day of entertainment.
“We all want to see more of the best golfers in the world going head-to-head.”
