The comparisons between Cam Newton and Bryce Young have and will continue to come up, especially here in 2023. They both rose to national prominence in the SEC, they both won a Heisman Trophy and they’re the only two No. 1 overall picks in Carolina Panthers franchise history.
Oh, and now they’ve both scored their first NFL touchdown on Aug. 25.
Exactly 12 years ago, as noted by Fox Sports Upstate’s John Ellis, Newton got his initial taste of a professional end zone on a 16-yard run against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Cool, cool.
Still gotta say, tho: Cam Newton hitting the Lebron Powder Toss…in Cincy…after scoring his first NFL TD…can’t beat it. https://t.co/jbPwyZDCcL pic.twitter.com/YIEq8VaFBJ

And tonight, Bryce got his—on a 16-yard completion to wide receiver Adam Thielen during Friday’s preseason finale against the Detroit Lions.

Young’s outing officially went into the books following the score. He finished having completed seven of his 12 throws for 73 yards, a summer-high for the rookie passer.
The youngster also scrambled for three impressive runs during his performance, rushing for 21 more yards. So maybe Bryce has two more things in common with Cam.
