Bryan Robson picks all-time Manchester United XI as Paul Scholes among big names to miss out

Bryan Robson has named his all-time Manchester United XI with some huge names failing to make the cut.

Robson enjoyed a stellar career at United between 1981 and 1994, making more than 400 appearances during that time. In his spell at Old Trafford, the midfielder won the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup to name just a few of of his accolades.

With such a storied history at United, it was inevitable that the 65-year-old would one day be asked to pick his best United XI. This opportunity arose on the Michael Anthony Show and one or two big names were left out.

To start, Robson opted to choose Peter Schmeichel in goal over Edwin van der Sar, a decision that he justified by saying: "Peter was more aggressive." He then added: "Look, the two of them were very close but you went Van der Sar, I went Schmeichel."

However, the biggest talking point came in midfield as he chose to pair Sir Bobby Charlton with Roy Keane in a 4-4-2 formation, leaving no room for Paul Scholes after he had already decided not to include himself in the XI. "I don't think so," he said when asked if Scholes should have been included in his XI.

"A few people might say yes. Scholesy was a class player."

Robson's all-time United XI in full: Peter Schmeichel; Tony Dunne, Paul McGrath, Jaap Stam, Denis Irwin; George Best, Sir Bobby Charlton, Roy Keane, Cristiano Ronaldo; Denis Law, Wayne Rooney
