Canada may have several castles but it doesn't come anywhere close to Wales when it comes to the historic venues so that's perhaps why Bryan Adams took a mega shine to one of our most famous landmarks during his latest Welsh gig. The Canadian rocker played Cardiff Castle on Monday, July 11 and he couldn't stop raving about the building.
Performing on a stage against the magnificent castle backdrop as the sun was setting on the hottest day of the year, Adams seemed in awe of the structure telling the thousands of fans who turned out to see him that he was so "impressed" with it.
In between performing tracks from his impressive back catalogue, the Run To You hitmaker was keen to find out as much as he could about the castle, asking fans if anyone lived there and whether or not it was haunted. He was even rather interested in a seagull which had taken perch on top and joked with us that it was where we kept our Canadian visitors, shouting: "But I've escaped!"
And not long after leaving the stage after an energetic hour-and-a-half set he had already taken to Instagram to rave about the singing of his Welsh fans - who were only too keen to join in belting out his greatest hits - and, of course, he couldn't resist mentioning the castle.
He wrote: "Cardiff Castle, Wales the best singers…wow. I really wanted the ghost of the castle to light up the three windows at the top of the castle turret and it happened …just as I left! "
It was a long-awaited performance for both the fans and Adams as the event had been postponed from June 2021 due to the pandemic and the rocker was quick to point out how happy they were to be back on the road performing once again for live crowds.
One of a series of recent live concerts at the venue - which also included Pete Tong and A-ha - Adams delighted fans of all ages with a string of hits including Can't Stop This Thing We Started, You Belong To Me, The Only Thing That Looks Good on Me Is You and Shine A Light, which saw the crowd hold phones aloft with torches illuminated.
