Bruno Guimaraes is already something of a cult hero at Newcastle United despite having started only a handful games for the club. He has been a revelation since breaking into Eddie Howe’s side and is one of the players making supporters extremely excited about the perceived upcoming rebuild.
Even though he largely plays in a deeper midfield role, the Brazil international continues to contribute in the final third and his goals have shown the vast quality he possesses. Whether it’s a mid-air backheel finish, a diving header or a delicate chip, what he provides in the opposition penalty area is essential for the way Howe wants his team to play.
Because of the impact he has already been able to have in less than half a season, there is a real belief that he can go onto become a legend on Tyneside. Speaking on BT Sport ahead of United’s clash with Liverpool, Shay Given spoke of his admiration for the 24-year-old.

“He’s a special talent and a fantastic signing for the club,” said the iconic former Magpies goalkeeper. “There were some big clubs looking at him. He feels at home here. Some of his comments as well, he wants to be a legend at the football club.
“He wants to be here long term. He can play in so many different positions. He can pick out a fantastic pass. He can play as an eight. He strikes me as a long-term signing. You can build your team around him.”
The Toon Army will hope that he is one of the players that the potential new-look squad is built around as he has already shown that he is good enough to play at the very top level. Getting United back into Europe is, of course, the ultimate aspiration for everyone at the club, at the moment, and Guimaraes is more than capable of plying his trade on that stage.
Peter Crouch, who knows what is needed to play at the top table of European football, believes he is more than capable of creating history at St James’ Park. The ex-Liverpool striker said: “He’s got that ability about him. Certainly at a place like this, players with flair and someone to get them off their feet, the crowd will love him.
“He could be a legend here if he stays a long time because he’s the type of player these fans will adore.”
Guimaraes is already showing that he is a player the fans will adore and, as far as those fans on Tyneside are concerned, long may it continue.
