Bruno Guimaraes' mother wears Newcastle United shirt at the World Cup to the delight of supporters

Hopeful supporters believe Bruno Guimaraes’ mother wearing a Newcastle United shirt is a “good omen” for the future. The Magpies’ midfielder has been a revelation since arriving on Tyneside in January.

An integral part of Newcastle’s turnaround under Eddie Howe, the 25-year-old has quickly adapted to life in England and become a fans’ favourite at St James’ Park. Guimaraes - currently on international duty with Brazil at the World Cup - has spoken about the mutual love from supporters in countless interviews.

He told FourFourTwo two months ago: “It’s a dream come true to be playing in the Premier League. Everything is amazing. Sometimes I think to myself, ‘I was born for this, for the Premier League’. I already feel at home here.

"The fans are crazy about me, and nothing beats that in football. Honestly, I get so much love out on the streets that sometimes it feels like I’m the mayor of the city!”

The Guimaraes clan are in Qatar to support their family member and Newcastle fans were stunned to see Bruno’s mother, Marcia, wearing a black-and-white Toon shirt. Optimistic supporters are wondering whether this gesture outlines a long-term future on Tyneside.

Many were quick to express their thoughts on social media, with Marcia being anointed as an honorary Geordie. Some went as far to suggest the picture is “the best thing” they have ever seen.

@StephenDews4: "Got to be a good omen for the future, he's going nowhere."

@AdamLw71: "We've got Bruno's mother in the middle!"

@Domosich: "This is the best thing I’ve ever seen."

@kendallrowanx: "I’m not over Bruno’s mam wearing a Newcastle top to the Brazil game."
