Bruno Guimaraes leads the way as Newcastle stars congratulate Joelinton after historic Brazil debut

Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes delivered a heartfelt message to Magpies teammate and compatriot Joelinton after the Magpies man capped his Brazil debut with a goal.

Joelinton tapped in his first goal for his country after just 27 minutes after Tottenham's Richarlison had one a header from a free-kick as the hosts romped to a 4-1 friendly victory over Guinea at the Estadi Cornellà-El Prat in Barcelona - the home of Espanyol.

Rodrygo, Militao and Vinicius Junior were also on the scoresheet for Brazil before Joelinton came off with 25 minutes remaining, replaced by fellow Newcastle star Guimaraes. “17.06.2023, a date that will forever be marked in my memory. Believe me, dreams can come true. Proud to represent my country," the 26-year-old Toon ace wrote on Instagram

“Congratulations brother! You deserve it, very happy for you," added Bruno, before a host of Eddie Howe's squad offered their congratulations on a memorable occasion, including Callum Wilson, Nick Pope and Alexander Isak.

“So happy for you niño," wrote Wilson, while Sven Botman added: "So happy for you."

Speaking after his incredible debut, Joelinton admitted it was an emotional moment and one he had dreamt of. "I was dreaming in the bedroom, imagining this moment. First game of the national team, it is a great pride," he said.

"I was remembering the time as a child, from the sieve in Sport and all the way here. There was a movie in my head. At the time of the goal it was a dream. I'm very happy."
